BELLINGHAM PHP • IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CLARITY
Structured support.
Skills for everyday life.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program brings together counseling, psychiatric care, and practical skill building for mental health and substance use recovery.

Care built around your needs
PHP supports people experiencing mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both together. Your goals and evaluation guide treatment planning, with support from a team of counselors and a psychiatric provider.
Group and individual counseling
Group therapy offers a place to learn and practice alongside others. Individual counseling and personalized treatment planning connect that work to your own needs and recovery goals.
Psychiatric support
Psychiatric evaluations and medication management are available when clinically appropriate. Your psychiatric provider works with you and the treatment team to coordinate care.
Mindfulness and DBT skills
John Novotny teaches mindfulness skills to the PHP group. The journal also incorporates relevant DBT skills, with counselor support to help you connect skills to everyday situations.
Practice in the community
Guided, counselor-supported outings to local support groups and parks offer opportunities to build community, practice coping skills, and gain confidence with support from our team.
A group you can join along the way
PHP is an open group. You begin with the topic the group is using when you join, rather than waiting for a new six-week cycle. The journal’s 24 sessions stand on their own, so earlier sessions are not prerequisites.
Sample journal topics
- What matters to me: explore the values you want your actions to express.
- My supports & strengths: identify people, places, and abilities you can draw on.
- Recognizing triggers & choice points: notice cues and plan a response that fits your goals.
- Responding to cravings & urges: prepare a practical response and identify support.
- Beginning again after a setback: reflect with compassion and choose a next step.
For example, a values session asks: What value would you like to express in one small action? You can keep examples general and discuss questions with your counselor.
Your interactive journal
The journal gives you space to reflect on group topics, practice skills, and identify what you want help with. It supports mental health recovery, substance use recovery, or both.
Authorized staff review saved entries to better understand your needs, develop treatment goals, and coordinate with medication management. Other clients cannot view your journal.
Open My Journal with your individual program account. For password help, email Chelsy. Journal entries are not a way to request urgent help.

For referring providers
PHP may be a good fit for adults and teens ages 13–17 who need more structured support than weekly outpatient care, including people transitioning from inpatient treatment. Clients receive support for mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both, and return home after program hours. An evaluation determines whether PHP is the appropriate level of care.
To discuss a referral, call (360) 676-4485 or use the chatbot on this site to connect with our team. We respond promptly, and a real person can text back when needed. You can also direct clients to the PHP application; a referral is not required to apply.
Starting is straightforward
- Apply directly. No referral is needed. Complete the online application to get started.
- Talk with our team. We will contact you promptly to discuss the program and schedule an evaluation.

Questions before you begin
Can my family be involved?
Family members are encouraged to meet with a family counselor at Clarity. Text the team to discuss arranging family counseling.
What are the expectations around substance use?
You must be sober when attending group to protect the safety and recovery of others in the program. If you have returned to substance use or are not sober, contact the team before attending to discuss support and next steps.
What happens after six weeks?
Clients transition to a lower level of care, such as a DBT group or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Your treatment team will work with you on the next step in your care.
What about insurance and cost?
PHP is covered by Molina Apple Health, Coordinated Care, Premera, Regence, Aetna, Kaiser, LifeWise, Moda, and United. Contact the team to verify your specific plan, benefits, any authorization requirements, and expected costs before starting treatment.
What should I know before my first day?
Confirm your arrival time, assigned days, paperwork, and anything you should bring with the team. Meals are provided and parking is available. Please discuss any dietary or accessibility needs before attending.
